Background and Experience
The Agricultural Cooperative KOSMOS, located in Veria, a rural town in Central Macedonia, Greece, stands as a distinguished example of sustainable and innovative agricultural development in one of the most fertile regions of the country.
KOSMOS unites more than 300 member farmers, in collaboration with over 500 non-member producers, creating a broad and dynamic agricultural community. The cooperative is recognized for its extensive and diversified agricultural production, which includes a wide variety of fruits and vegetables ideally suited to the climatic conditions of Northern Greece.
At the core of KOSMOS’s mission lies the promotion of sustainable farming practices and the efficient management of water resources. This commitment is reflected in the cooperative’s emphasis on high-quality produce, particularly in the fruit and vegetable sectors, and in its continuous efforts to reduce environmental impact.
Demonstrating a proactive and future-oriented vision, KOSMOS actively invests in the exploration and implementation of alternative energy sources, reinforcing its transition towards renewable energy and environmental sustainability.
In parallel, the cooperative embraces the principles of the circular economy, particularly through the utilization of agricultural waste. A notable example is its partnership with a domestic organization to convert peach pits into biofuel, a project that highlights both its innovative spirit and its dedication to waste reduction and resource optimization.
Water conservation also remains a strategic priority. KOSMOS implements comprehensive practices aimed at minimizing water waste across all its operations, contributing to more efficient and environmentally responsible agricultural production.
Through this holistic approach, KOSMOS consistently demonstrates its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and environmental stewardship, positioning itself as a leading force in the modern agri-food sector in Greece and beyond.
